(a) (5, 2)
(b) (−5, −2)
(c) (−5, 2)
(d) (2, 5)

📖 Explanation: Under reflection in the x-axis, (x, y) → (x, −y). So, (5, −2) → (5, 2).

(ii) 📍 The midpoint of the line segment joining A(3, −1) and B(−1, 5) is:
(a) (1, 2)
(b) (2, 1)
(c) (1, 3)
(d) (2, 2)

And y = 6 ⇒ y = 6
✔️ x = 4, y = 6

(ii) 📈 Find the equation of a line passing through the point (3, −2) and perpendicular to the line 2x − 3y + 5 = 0. [3]

See also  CBSE Class 9 Science — 80 Marks Question Paper (Set 1) with Answers

Slope of given line = 2/3
Slope of perpendicular line = −3/2
Equation of required line through (3, −2):
y − (−2) = (−3/2)(x − 3)
y + 2 = (−3/2)(x − 3)
2(y + 2) = −3(x − 3)
2y + 4 = −3x + 9
3x + 2y − 5 = 0
📝 Equation of the line: 3x + 2y − 5 = 0

(a) P(white) = 4/15
(b) P(not black) = 1 − P(black) = 1 − 6/15 = 9/15 = 3/5
(c) P(white or red) = (4+5)/15 = 9/15 = 3/5
✔️ Answers: (a) 4/15 (b) 3/5 (c) 3/5

(iii) 📊 The median of the following data is 35. Find the value of x. [4]

Class IntervalFrequency
0 – 104
10 – 206
20 – 30x
30 – 4012
40 – 508

✅ Answer:
Total frequency = 4 + 6 + x + 12 + 8 = 30 + x
Median class is 30–40 (given median = 35)
Cumulative frequency before median class = 4 + 6 + x = 10 + x
Median = l + [(N/2 − cf)/f] × h
35 = 30 + [((30+x)/2 − (10+x))/12] × 10
5 = [((30+x)/2 − 10 − x)/12] × 10
60/10 = (30+x)/2 − 10 − x
6 = (30+x)/2 − 10 − x
16 = (30+x)/2 − x
32 = 30 + x − 2x
32 = 30 − x
x = −2

For boat C: tan 45° = 80/BC ⇒ BC = 80 m
For boat D: tan 30° = 80/BD ⇒ BD = 80√3 = 138.56 m
Distance between boats = BD − BC = 80√3 − 80 = 80(√3 − 1) = 80(1.732 − 1) = 80 × 0.732 = ✔️ 58.56 m

❓ Question 7 [10 Marks]

✅ Answer:
Volume of cone = (1/3)πr²h = (1/3)π(6)²(8) = (1/3)π × 36 × 8 = 96π cm³
Volume of one sphere = (4/3)πr³ = (4/3)π(1)³ = (4/3)π cm³
Number of spheres = 96π / (4/3)π = 96 × 3/4 = 72
✔️ Number of spheres = 72

PA = PB
(x−4)² + (0−3)² = (x+2)² + (0−5)²
(x−4)² + 9 = (x+2)² + 25
x² − 8x + 16 + 9 = x² + 4x + 4 + 25
−8x + 25 = 4x + 29

        |    \
        |     \
        D------E (deck level)
        |      |
     10 |      |
        |      |
        W------B (base of hill)

Let the height of the hill be H, and the horizontal distance from the ship to the hill be x.
From deck level: tan 30° = 10/x ⇒ x = 10√3 m
From deck level: tan 60° = (H − 10)/x ⇒ √3 = (H − 10)/(10√3)
30 = H − 10
H = 40 m
✔️ Height of the hill = 40 m
